Domestic Oil Spils
Sometimes things go wrong and when they do BRD are here to help clean up.
When oil spills occur, BRD offer a rapid service to identify the extent of the problem and then implement appropriate clean up works.
The initial inspection visit will comprise hand dug inspection pits, hand auger boreholes and, sometimes, monitoring wells installed in narrow diameter boreholes. Assessment is made on the basis of Photo Ionisation Detector (PID) readings and laboratory Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) analysis on an express service. Once the results are assessed, remedial works generally follow the pattern illustrated below:
Under the supervision of a Geo-Environmental Consultant from BRD the grossly contaminated soils are excavated by hand and/or mini-digger for off site disposal to landfill or treatment centre.
Specialist chemical treatment is applied to remove any residual heating oil that may be present. It is also useful for eliminating oil in hard to reach locations such as pumping it into soils beneath floor slabs.
